The 2018 schedule for the Irvine Valley women's soccer team has been released.
The Lasers play a scrimmage at Southwestern in San Diego on Friday, Aug. 24, and then play their first official match of the year against San Diego City on Thursday, Aug. 30 at 3 p.m.
IVC will then travel to up to Las Positas for a tournament on Sept. 6 and Sept. 8, taking on the City College of San Francisco on the 6th and host Las Positas on the 8th.
Irvine Valley then jumps into Orange Empire Conference play, hosting Fullerton on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m.
It will be one of 16 conference games for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley caps the regular season on Friday, Nov. 9 with a home match against Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
The Lasers finished with a record of 3-12-7 overall and 3-7-6 in the Orange Empire Conference during the 2017 campaign. Irvine Valley was right there in most contests, losing seven matches by one goal. IVC also gave up more than two goals in just two contests last season.
And the Lasers did record ties against the likes of Santiago Canyon, Cypress Orange Coast and Saddleback, which all made the playoffs a year ago.
Irvine Valley had several promising freshmen players last year, including defender Savanna Hayes, who was named the team's most valuable player.
Hayes, who was named first team all-Orange Empire Conference, scored two goals on the season and helped IVC to seven shutouts. She started all 22 matches for IVC.
