Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Aug. 31 and the first one for the 2021-22 school year is freshman women's volleyball player Jalyi Nealy.
Nealy, who plays opposite, helped lead the Lasers to a season-opening, four-set win last Friday night at College of the Canyons.
She finished with 16 kills, five digs and four blocks for IVC in the 25-16, 25-20, 24-26, 25-17 win.
The former Culver High (Culver City) standout Nealy had a team-leading 20.0 points for the Lasers. She also hit .257 on the night and finished with two aces.
Irvine (1-0) will play again on Friday night at home against San Diego Miramar at 6 p.m. Fans are not allowed, but the match will be streamed at (20+) Irvine Valley College Athletics | Facebook
