Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Jan. 9 is freshman women's basketball player and star point guard Trasara Alexander.
Alexander, who is the leading scorer for Irvine Valley this year, dominated for Irvine Valley in a great start to the week.
IVC, ranked No. 19 in the state, defeated Golden West last Friday night at home, 84-41.
It was Irvine Valley's second biggest margin of victory on the season. IVC defeated College of the Desert to start the year, 78-19, on Nov. 3, 2022.
The Lasers also just missed beating the No. 2 team in the state, Orange Coast. Irvine Valley fell, 57-53, in a game close to the end last Wednesday at home.
Trasara is averaging a team-leading 12.9 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game on the year.
Against Golden West in the 43-point win Friday, she had 27 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals in 30 minutes of action.
And versus Orange Coast in a the close loss last Wednesday, Alexander scored 21 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and had four assists.
Irvine Valley, which has a record of 13-5 overall, plays again Wednesday at Santa Ana in a conference match-up.
