Alumni Report: Three IVC soccer players start at Concordia

Former Irvine Valley soccer players Julian Svoboda, Domenyk Jara and Jacob Edwards each saw a lot of time at NCAA Division II Concordia last fall.

The trio combined for three goals and three assists on the year for the Eagles.

Jara, a senior defender, finished with two goals, including a game-winner. He played in 15 contests and started 13.

Svoboda, a senior defender, had one goal and two assists. He played in 14 matches and started 11.

And Edwards contributed two assists in 10 matches played and six starts.

Concordia finished with a record of 6-7-2 overall and 4-5-2 in the PacWest Conference.

Jara played in 20 matches, started 15 and was a key player in a successful 2021 season for Irvine Valley.

Jara helped IVC to a record of 9-10-3 overall and make the California Community College Athletic Association So. Cal. Regional Playoffs during the 2021 season.

IVC played one of the toughest schedules in the state.

Jara was a big part of the Laser defense. IVC gave up just 1.77 goals per match in 2021.

Svoboda played in 23 games and made 22 starts, finishing wiith two goals and 14 assists on the year for the Lasers in 2022.

Svoboda finished first in the conference in assists (he doubled the next player in the OEC) and had the fifth-most points in the conference with 18.

He had three assists in a 6-1 IVC win over Imperial Valley on Sept. 20 and recorded two assists against both Southwestern and Cypress.

The Lasers finished with a record of 11-7-5 overall, finished fifth in the Orange Empire Conference and were competitive against every team the side played against this season under first-year head coach Conor Ward.

Irvine Valley made the CCCAA So. Cal. Regional Playoffs and defeated Antelope Valley, 3-1, at home in a first-round match-up before falling to a tough El Camino squad, 3-0, on the road in the second round in mid November.

Svoboda played in 12 matches for the Lasers during the 2021 campaign and recorded two goals and one assist.

Edwards was a two-year starter for the Lasers, helped lead IVC to a 12-4-6 record overall in 2023 and a trip to the So. Cal. playoffs.

Irvine Valley finished second in the Orange Empire Conference with a mark of 7-1-6.

Edwards started in 18 matches and finished with one goal and two assists, while playing all over the field and being steady in the midfield for IVC.

He earned second-team, all-conference honors in 2023.

In the 2022 season for IVC, Edwards played in 21 matches and started 18 contests.

He finished with five goals and had five assists for 15 points for an IVC team that had a record of 11-7-5 overall and reached the second round of the playoffs.
