Irvine Valley's men's volleyball team swept its second straight Orange Empire Conference opponent, taking care of Golden West at home on Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked second in the state, defeated the No. 8 Rustlers, 25-18, 25-14, 26-24.

It was Irvine Valley's eighth three-set sweep of the season.

It was IVC's second win over Golden West this season and kept IVC alone in second place in the conference.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 14-2 overall and 5-1 in conference. Golden West fell to 8-8 overall and 1-6 in conference.

The first set was tight until late. The set was tied at 16-16 when IVC scored nine of the next 11 points to win going away.

Freshman outside hitter Brennan To had a kill to put the Lasers ahead, 17-16 and To and freshman middle blocker Matt August combined for a block to make it 18-16.

Up, 19-18, Irvine Valley scored the final six points of the set.

Up, 9-8, Irvine Valley ran off 10 of the next 13 points and took a 19-11 lead after a kill by To, kill by Furlong and ace by sophomore libero Josh Evers.

The Lasers led, 18-14, after a kill by sophomore outside hitter Cody Hermanson and IVC was up, 21-15, after a kill by McBain.

And IVC had a 24-21 lead after Golden West served out.

But the Rustlers didn't go away.

They won three straight points and tied the set at 24-24 after a block by Tyler Peck and Shilo Chow.

But IVC answered back with the next two points to take the set and the match.

Golden West served out and then Kysen Olsen hit out to end it.
