But the Lasers fell at OCC, 16-25, 25-16, 23-25, 26-24, 18-16.
With the win, the second-seeded Pirates (21-3) will make their 10th consecutive State Final Four appearance and host Diego Mesa (20-3) on Thursday.
Irvine Valley finished its season with a record of 15-8 overall.
IVC started strong by taking the first set, 25-16, and after losing the second set, and winning the third, had two match points in the fourth set.
Orange Coast recovered, pulled off the fourth set and then won a back and forth fifth set.
For Irvine Valley, freshman outside hitter Spencer York finished with 17 kills on a .394 hitting percentage.
Freshman setter Bryce Nohava had 44 assists and three aces for the Lasers.
Kam Vakillan and Noah Keelin each had 14 kills for the Pirates and Ashton Florentin added 13 kills in the win.
Freshman outside hitter Lucas Vo added 10 kills and freshman libero Cage Gonzalez contributed 10 digs and four assists for the Lasers.
