Irvine Valley's flag football bounced back with a big win on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Lasers lost a tough one, falling to Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference game, 25-18, on an end of the game touchdown on Thursday at home.
But with a 45-12 victory over Long Beach State on Saturday, IVC improved its record to 9-2 on the year.
The Lasers led, 7-6, after the first quarter, but were up, 20-6, by halftime and cruised from there.
For Irvine Valley, sophomore quarterback Akayla Chaple threw seven touchdown passes and sophomore Mia Lacy added a throwing score.
Freshman receiver Maia Helmar was also one of the stars of the day. She caught five touchdowns on the afternoon. Sophomore Allison Faggella and freshman Maya McKenna each added a recieving touchdown.
On defense, IVC got two interceptions from sophomore Marisol Gongora and one each from freshman Sage Samuel and Faggella.
A six-yard pass touchdown from Chaple to Helmar with 7:23 left in the first quarter and the extra point from Chaple to sohomore Crystal Cervantes made it a 7-0 game.
Long Beach State answered at the end of the first quarter with a passing touchdown. The extra point was no good and IVC led, 7-6.
Irvine Valley rolled the rest of the way, scoring the next 31 points.
IVC took a 38-6 lead with 9:50 remaining in the fourth quarter on another touchdown pass from Chaple to Helmar.
Long Beach State got back on the board with 2:18 left with a passing touchdown.
And Irvine Valley closed out the scoring with a touchdown pass from Lacy to McKenna with 19 seconds left in the game.
Irvine Valley gets back to Orange Empire Conference action on Thursday when it plays Golden West at Cypress College at 3 p.m.
