Women's soccer team earns biggest point of season at Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 0-0 Orange Empire Conference draw at eighth-ranked in the state Cypress on the road Tuesday afternoon.

It was the first tie of the year for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley's record moved to 9-8-1 on the year and 3-7-1 in the conference. Cypress went to 12-5-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the OEC.

IVC stayed in sixth place in the conference and is two wins away from fifth-place Golden West.

The Lasers also moved up in the state power point rankings and sits at No. 29 in the state power point rankings for So. Cal.

The top 24 teams based on power points make the field for the playoffs in the south.

Cypress out-shot Irvine Valley, 16-1, on the afternoon, but the IVC back line held tough and sophomore goalie Joanna Valdez recorded an incredible 10 saves in the match.

Irvine Valley now hosts No. 3 in the state Santiago Canyon on Friday at 3 p.m.
