The Irvine Valley men's tennis team is one win away from reaching the 3C2A State Championship Final in Ventura.
The defending state champion Lasers defeated a solid Ventura squad at home on Tuesday in the second round of the So. Cal. Regional Playoffs, 5-0.
No. 1 Irvine Valley will now play No. 5 Glendale at home on Saturday with a trip to the state final on the line.
The Lasers wrapped the match up early by taking all three doubles sets, including a solid effort on the third court by freshman Richard Petery and sophomore Jonathan Hinkel (8-6).
Irvine Valley also received doubles wins from the No. 1 duo of freshman Philip Neuman and freshman Steven Anderson, 8-6, and the No. 2 team of freshman Humam Alajeely and sophomore Nevin McCann won, 8-2.
And then the Lasers took the first two singles matches on the board.
Neuman, won 6-1, 6-1, on the first court.
And Alajeely clinched the overall team victory at No. 4 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 finish.
Sophomore Bradley Yung was also ahead in the second set on the sixth court for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley next plays Glendale at home Saturday at 2 p.m.
