Irvine Valley's men's basketball team had its three-game win streak snapped in a hard-fought game at Mt. San Antonio, 98-84, on Friday night.
The Lasers, who were ranked No. 24 in the state by the California Community College Men's Baskeball Coaches Association latest poll, had their record fall to 9-5 overall.
Mt. SAC was ranked No. 15 in the poll.
The Mounties improved their record to 11-2 overall.
Irvine Valley was down big early, but pulled within two points at 41-39 at the half.
IVC was led by sophomore wing Yanis Aldeguer with 16 points (12 of 13 from the free throw line).
Sophomore post Matt Mowers added 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, sophomore forward Garrett Trayer had 12 points and five rebounds and freshman guard Ahmad Alhammouri finished with 11 points and four rebounds.
Laser freshman point guard Santos Cordero contributed 10 points.
Irvine Valley shot 46.6 percent (27 of 58) from the field as a team.
But Mt. SAC had its own way on the offensive end.
The Mounties shot 60.4 percent (32 of 53) from the field and went to the free throw line 43 times (28 for 43).
IVC committed 30 fouls in the contest.
Mt. SAC was led by Dayvon Gates with 30 points, Jaidyn Simpson with 24 points and six rebounds and Ryan Wheeler with 18 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks.
Irvine Valley plays again at home on Tuesday, Dec. 30, at 5 p.m. against LA Valley.
