Irvine Valley's men's basketball team earned one of its biggest victories of the season on Tuesday night at home.
In a back and forth game against one of the best teams in the Orange Empire Conference, IVC's sophomore guard Ahmad Alhammouri grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a fall-away putback near the rim with 1.2 seconds left to lift Irvine Valley to a 61-59 win.
The Lasers improved their record to 14-11 overall, stopped a five-game losing streak and went to 4-7 in the conference.
Irvine Valley currently sits in a tie for sixth place in the OEC with Saddleback.
In the win on Tuesday, Alhammouri's game-winning shot gave him 19 points in the game.
He added four rebounds.
And sophomore post player Matt Mowers contributed 18 points and nine rebounds for the Lasers.
Neither team led by more than seven points in the game.
Riverside tied the game with 21 seconds left on a three-pointer by Jabari Harris.
And then on IVC's last time down the court in regulation, sophomore wing Yanis Aldeguer missed a three-pointer, but Alhammouri worked his way into the right place at the right time.
Riverside was paced by Tylon Williams and Harris with 16 points each. Jayden Harper added eight rebounds for the Tigers.
The Lasers host Orange Coast on Thursday in a conference game at 5 p.m. and then IVC plays at Santa Ana (Wednesday) and Fullerton (Friday) next week in the final contests of the regular season.
