Irvine Valley's men's basketball team scored a wild 67-65 win in an Orange Empire Conference game on Friday night at Saddleback.
The Lasers scored the first 15 points of the second half and took a 46-26 lead with 15:40 left in the game on a layup by sophomore post player Matt Mowers.
Saddleback then went on a 10-0 run on a layup by Michael Bichel to pull within 10 points.
And IVC was still ahead by 10 at 62-52 with 5:41 remaining.
It was a 65-56 game with 3:15 to play, but the Bobcats scored the next nine points and tied the game at 65-65 with six seconds remaining on a layup by Christopher Williams.
But Saddleback fouled IVC freshman point guard Santos Cordero three seconds later and Cordero calmly stepped to the line and knocked both shots down for a 6-65 lead.
Charlie Stallings was off on a long three-pointer at the buzzer for Saddleback and Irvine Valley held on to improve its record to 12-4 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Both of IVC's wins in conference have been by two points.
For the game, IVC shot 41.7 percent (20 of 48) as a team, while Saddleback shot 36.7 percent (18 of 49).
The Lasers had 14 assists on their 20 made baskets.
The Bobcats hurt themselves by missing 12 free throws (24 of 36).
Mowers led Irvine Valley with 13 points and four rebounds, while sophomore wing Nate Tuttle added 12 points and sophomore guard Yanis Aldeguer chipped in 11 points.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, hosting Santiago Canyon in a conference game at 5 p.m.
