The Irvine Valley men's basketball team is continuing to look to get into the 3C2A Playoffs and it hosts its next game on Thursday night against Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match-up at 5 p.m. at home.
Irvine Valley captured one of its biggest victories of the season on Tuesday night at home.
In a back and forth game against one of the best teams in the Orange Empire Conference, IVC's sophomore guard Ahmad Alhammouri grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a putback with 1.2 seconds left to lift Irvine Valley to a 61-59 win.
The Lasers improved their record to 14-11 overall, stopped a five-game losing streak and went to 4-7 in the conference.
Irvine Valley currently sits in a tie for sixth place in the OEC with Saddleback.
In the win on Tuesday, Alhammouri's game-winning shot gave him 19 points in the game. He added four rebounds.
And sophomore post player Matt Mowers contributed 18 points and nine rebounds for the Lasers.
On the year, Mowers is averaging 15.2 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. Alhammouri averages 13.8 points and 3.3 rebounds and sophomore win Yanis Aldeguer is averaging 8.3 points and 3.5 rebounds per game for IVC.
This is the final home game of the regular season for Irvine Valley.
The Lasers play at Santa Ana and Fullerton next week.
Orange Coast enters with a record of 1-24 overall and 0-11 in the Orange Empire Conference.
Orange Coast fell to Santiago Canyon, 105-73, at home on Tuesday.
Chris Obiajulu had a big night for the Pirates with 27 points, shooting 10 of 16 from the field.
Jay Fromm added 14 points and Jayden Baude chipped in 11 points for OCC.
On the year, Obiajulu leads the way, averaging 15.0 points and 5.2 rebounds, Baude averages 8.7 points and Fromm is averaging 8.5 and 1.6 assists points per game.
