The Irvine Valley baseball team dropped just its third game of the season last Friday, but answered back with an 8-1 victory over LA Valley at home on Tuesday afternoon.
The win improved IVC's record to 12-3 overall.
The Lasers play at LA Valley on Wednesday in the second game of the series.
Irvine Valley received a strong start on the mound from freshman right-hander Cooper Hahn.
He went six innings, giving up just one run on six hits and one walk with six strikeouts.
Irvine Valley took the lead right off the bat, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
An error by LA Valley on a long fly ball hit to center field by freshman catcher Shane Flynn allowed freshman first baseman Jacob Ceja to score. And then sophomore right fielder Sam Tucci hit an RBI double to put IVC ahead, 2-0.
LA Valley scored its lone run in the top of the second inning to pull within a run, but Irvine Valley scored one run in the bottom of the third and two more in the fourth to take control.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore third baseman Lucas Scott hit an RBI double and then freshman second baseman Adrian Covarrubias drove in Scott with a single to right field.
The Lasers tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on run-scoring hits by Scott and freshman outfielder Kaden Aimer and a fielder's choice RBI by Covarrubias.
On the day, Scott went 2 for 4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI.
He also pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning for IVC.
Tucci was 1 for 2 with a double and two runs scored and Covarrubias went 1 for 4 with two RBI and two stolen bases. Sophomore center fielder Brandon Abernathy also stole two bases and went 1 for 3 with a walk and one run scored.
