Irvine Valley's baseball team won its 15th game of the season and closed out a home series with Los Angeles Harbor with its second victory in a row.
Irvine Valley defeated Los Angeles Harbor, 8-2, on Wednesday at home to improve its record to 15-10 overall.
IVC gets back to Orange Empire Conference action next Tuesday at home with a 2 p.m. game against Orange Coast.
The Lasers' star of the game was sophomore left-handed pitcher Jackson Chastain, who threw a complete game and earned his fourth win of the season.
Chastain (4-1) went all nine and gave up just two runs on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
Meanwhile, the Lasers pounded out 12 hits in the win.
Harbor scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning and the game was tied at 2-2 through the first three innings.
But Irvine Valley took the lead for good in the top of the fourth inning on a solo home run by sophomore center fielder Brandon Abernathy and then added three runs in the top of the fifth and closed things out with two runs in the top of the eighth inning.
The big hit in the fifth was a two-run single up the middle by freshman second baseman Adrian Covarrubias.
Freshman catcher Caleb Caparco led the way on offense, going 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI.
Covarrubias went 2 for 4 with two RBI and Abernathy hit the home run and was 1 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.
Also for Irvine Valley, sophomore third baseman Lucas Scott, freshman shortstop Mason Gerhardt and freshman first baseman Rowan Sparks each had a double at the plate.
