Irvine Valley's baseball team finished with 10 hits, but fell behind early and lost to Saddleback, 5-2, in an Orange Empire Conference game on Thursday at home.
It was the second contest of the three-game set.
Irvine Valley plays at Saddleback in the final game of the regular season on Friday at 1 p.m.
IVC's record went to 18-21 overall and 3-17 in conference play. Saddleback improved to 23-16 overall and 13-7 in OEC action.
Saddleback took over the game early, scoring five runs in the first two innings.
Irvine Valley tried to rally late, but it wasn't enough.
The Lasers scored their first run in the bottom of the second with a sacrifice fly by freshman designated hitter Caleb Caparco.
Irvine Valley added a run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a RBI double by sophomore center fielder Brandon Abernathy.
Abernathy, freshman first baseman Jacob Ceja and sophomore shortstop Lucas Scott each finished with two hits for the Lasers.
And sophomore left-handed pitcher Christian Viggiano stood out for Irvine Valley with 7.1 scoreless innings in relief.
He gave up just five hits and one walk with three strikeouts in the game.
