Irvine Valley's baseball team escaped with a 5-4 victory over Los Angeles Harbor on Tuesday as part of its spring break week at the college.
IVC snapped a seven-game skid and improved its record to 14-10 overall.
LA Harbor fell to 8-15-1 overall.
It was back and forth throughout Tuesday's contest with LA Harbor taking a 3-1 lead through three innings.
The Lasers tied things up with single runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings.
Sophomore first baseman Sam Tucci scored on an error after freshman left fielder Kaden Aimer laid down a bunt to make it a 3-2 game.
And then in the sixth inning, freshman left fielder John Uchytil hit a double to left center that scored freshman catcher Caleb Caparco to tie the game up.
Irvine Valley took a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the eighth inning when Caparco scored on an Irvine Valley double play.
But the Seahawks tied the contest in the top of the ninth on a RBI single up the middle by designated hitter Christian Hernandez.
It stayed that way even though both teams had chances for the last several innings.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, freshman shortstop Mason Gerhardt walked to lead off the frame, sophomore third baseman Jake Amundson moved Gerhardt to second with a sacrifice bunt, Caparco then walked and Uchytil hit a single up the middle to load the bases.
He next hitter for IVC, freshman second baseman Adrian Covarrubias hit a hard liner to second, but it was caught.
It left things up to Tucci, who worked the count against Harbor reliever Hayden Nelson.
The at bat came down to a 3-2 pitch and Tucci saw the ball outside to earn the walk, the RBI and bring the win to the Lasers.
Each team finished with seven hits in the contest.
Irvine Valley was led at the plate by Uchytil, who went 3 for 3 for 5 with a double and one RBI and Caparco, who was 2 for 3 with two doubles, a walk and two runs scored.
IVC earned eight walks as a team on the day.
The standouts on the mound for the Lasers were freshman right-handed reliever Cooper Payne, who entered in the fourth inning and threw six innings, giving up just one run (unearned) on two hits and recording four strikeouts.
And sophomore Lucas Scott, who also plays third base for the squad. Scott earned his first win as a pitcher, throwing a scoreless inning in the top of the 10th.
The two teams meet again on Wednesday at Irvine Valley at 2 p.m. to finish the series.
IVC then gets back to Orange Empire Conference action next Tuesday, hosting Orange Coast at 2 p.m.
