Women's basketball comes in again at No. 10 in coaches poll

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team, heading into its Orange Empire Conference schedule with a home game against Cypress at 7 p.m. on Wednesday was ranked No. 10 in the state for the second week in a row in the polling that came out on Tuesday.

Irvine Valley has a record of 14-2 overall and is sixth in the So. Cal. Region.

Mt. San Antonio College scored all 15 first-place votes to remain the No. 1 team on this week's new year's edition of the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) State Top 25. 

Folsom Lake moved up a slot to No. 2, edging out now N0. 3 Orange Coast in voting points (341-339), while Laney remains in the four spot.

The rest of the top 10 includes No. 5 Moorpark, still undefeated, No. 6 MiraCosta, seventh Cypress, No. 8 San Joaquin Delta, third in state points at 264 but rated lower regionally than No. 9 Santa Rosa and eleventh-ranked Butte.

While the movement was subtle for the most part, No. 24 Los Angeles Trade-Tech has regained a spot in the rankings while previously No. 22 San Diego Mesa fell out.

Two teams with below .500 records are among the ranked in #17 College of the Sequoias (7-9) and #25 Long Beach City (7-8).

The South Region has a decided advantage in ranked teams with 15 squads, including five from the Orange Empire Conference in Orange Coast, Cypress, Irvine Valley, #21 Santa Ana and #22 Saddleback.  

This week's theme is rebounding leaders across the state.
