Women's basketball team rolls in ninth victory of the season

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team captured its fifth straight win and limited an opponent to a tying season-low amount of points Tuesday night at home.

Irvine Valley held LA Mission to under double-digit scoring in all our quarters and came out with a 53-32 victory.

IVC improved its record to an impressive 9-1 overall.

The Lasers will go after their 10th victory on Friday with a road game at Citrus at 6 p.m.

Before Tuesday, Irvine Valley held one other foe to 32 points for a game this season. And that was in a 83-32 win over El Camino at home on Nov. 19.

IVC's defefensive effort was on point all night long.

The Lasers helped hold LA Mission to just 23.1 percent (12 of 52) from the field as a team in the game. IVC also turned the Eagles over 26 times in the contest.

Offensively, Irvine Valley led, 26-17, at the half and then blitzed LA Mission in the third quarter. IVC scored four of the first five baskets of the period to jump out to a 34-22 lead.

Irvine Valley took a 39-23 advantage into the final quarter.

IVC's largest lead of the game at 25 points with 5:46 remaining in the fourth period.

Sophomore wing Kivonni Williams led the way with 20 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore guard Symantha Barnett added eight points, four rebounds and five assists and sophomore post player Gianna DeForest contributed six points and eight rebounds for the Lasers.
