Women's basketball team blows out Citrus, 88-41, on the road

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team improved its record to 10-1 overall with a 88-41 victory at Citrus on Friday night.

All five of starters scored in double figures for the Lasers, led by sophomore guard Symantha Barnett with 20 points and sophomore forward Gianna DeForest with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Sophomore forward Alexis Price added 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks, sophomore wing Kivonni Williams chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals and freshman guard Lexy Gallegos had 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals for IVC.

Freshman guard Princess Mendoza also had seven points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Irvine Valley led, 22-11, after the first quarter and, 51-20, at the half.

IVC took its largest lead (53 points) with 9:04 left in the game.

The Lasers shot 50.0 percent (39 of 78) from the field as a team and out-rebounded Citrus, 59-35). They also finished with 23 assists.

Irvine Valley plays three games on the road next week. It is at San Diego Mesa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and then plays Friday and Saturday in the Glendale Tournament.
