Women's basketball keeps moving up, now No. 7 in state RPI

The Irvine Valley women's basketball team, which has a record of 10-1 overall, and has won six contests in a row has moved up to No. 7 in the state in the RPI rankings through the 3C2A Monday.

Irvine Valley defeated LA Mission, 53-32, last Tuesday at home behind 20 points and seven rebounds from sophomre wing player Kivonni Williams and then beat Citrus, 88-41, on the road on Friday night.

At Citrus, sophomore guard Symantha Barnett led the IVC squad with 20 points, six reounds, three assists and two blocks and sophomore forward Gianna DeForest contributed 15 points and 10 rebounds.

DeForest was named Irvine Valley's athlete of the week for Monday, Dec. 15 after here double-double last Friday.

The Lasers have an important week this week with three games on the road.

Irvine Valley plays at San Diego Mesa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. to start the week and then travels to the Glendale tourney on Friday and Saturday.

IVC starts the event on Friday against Rio Hondo at 5 p.m.

The Lasers are No. 5 in the South of the state, only behind Mt. SAC, Orange Coast, Moorpark and Cypress.
