Women's basketball team moves up to No. 7 in state rankings

Irvine Valley's women's basketball team has moved up three places in the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association state rankings.

The Lasers were at No. 10 two weeks ago, but now sit at No. 7 after defeating Saddleback two weeks ago and then beating Orange Coast, 45-33, at home last Thursday night.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 22-4 overall and 8-2 in the OEC.

IVC is in first place in conference with two games left to play in the regular season. The Lasers are at Santa Ana on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and then play at Fullerton on Friday at 7 p.m.

The fourth quarter was the difference for IVC last Thursday in the win over the Pirates.

Irvine Valley ran out to a lead in the fourth period and were up by as many as 14 points late in the game.

The Lasers were led by sophomore forward Kivonni Williams, who scored 14 points and added three rebounds.

But she was even better on the defensive end, picking up OCC's top scorers.

Sophomore wing Alexis Price was also a force on defense, contributing 11 rebounds and three blocks. She added four points and five assists for the squad.

And sophomore guard Symantha Barnett seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two blocks for IVC.

The latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) State Top 25 goes into the final week of the regular season with some teams battling to get into the postseason, some trying to grab a conference title, and others just preparing for the 2026 Regional Playoffs. 

State No. 1 Mt. San Antonio (26-1) is one of 14 teams with 20 or more victories while #5 MiraCosta remains the only undefeated team at 26-0. San Joaquin Delta moves up to No. 2 and tops in the North region followed closely by No. 3 Folsom Lake in a battle to the wire for the Big 8 Conference crown.

Moorpark goes up to fourth, Laney comes in at No. 6, Irvine Valley bolts up to seventh, Santa Rosa JC climbs to No. 8, and both Mt. San Jacinto at No. 9 and Glendale at 10th leap into that top 10. 

Fifteen teams from the South are part of the elite 25. Five Orange Empire Conference squads are in that mix including Saddleback at No. 11, Cypress No. 13, Orange Coast 14th, and Santa Ana at No. 24. 

Two teams making waves of late are No. 16 Long Beach City and No. 19 College of the Sequoias, both rising six positions from the previous ranking.

Meanwhile, San Jose City takes a trip into the ratings at #23.

This week's theme is scoring leaders across the state, and every team is represented either in the ranking notes are other leaders.
