The Irvine Valley women's basketball team moved within one win from making the 3C2A State Championships.
The Lasers won a hard-fought second-round regional playoff game over Chaffey, 59-47, on Saturday night at home.
The win improved the Lasers' record to 25-4 overall. IVC won the Orange Empire Conference title and is the No. 2 seed in the regional.
Chaffey, who was seeded 13th, saw its season end with a record of 17-13.
IVC led just 31-30 at the half and the game was still tight after the third quarter with the Lasers ahead, 46-43.
But Irvine Valley took control early in the fourth and final period and shut down the Panthers down on the offensive end.
A basket by sophomore forward Kivonni Williams with 2:51 to play gave Irvine Valley a 56-47 advantage.
And the Lasers were up by 12 points shortly after. Freshman guard Princess Mendoza made a free throw to make it a 59-47 game.
IVC held on from there.
Irvine Valley was led by sophomore guard Symantha Barnett, who finished with 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and three blocks.
Sophomore Neryah Lokeni had one of her best games as a Laser, contributing 14 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.
And sophomore wing Alexis Price chipped in 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists and four steals.
Irvine Valley shot 42.9 percent from the field as a team and held Chaffey to just 34.0 percent shooting.
The Lasers also out-rebounded the Panthers, 41-33, in the game.
Irvine Valley will host Fullerton in a regional final this coming Saturday at 7 p.m.
