The Irvine Valley men's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2025 season on Tuesday at Southwestern in Chula Vista.
The Lasers had played three of the top programs in the state in their first three contests (El Camino, Hartnell and Cerritos).
IVC took on another challenging side Tuesday on the road, but came away with a 2-1 victory with two later goals.
Southwestern took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Christian Quezada in the 17th minute.
The Lasers dominated possession for most of the match, but didn't get on the board until the 72nd minute when sophomore defender Armin Tehrani scored off of a nice ball from freshman defender Michael Baumgaertel to tie up the score.
Irvine Valley took the lead for good in the 84th minute when Baumgaertel scored on a beautiful free kick into the upper corner of the goal. Freshman Jonathon Minney earned the foul to set up the winning goal by Baumgaertel.
IVC freshmen Sansiro Murata and Kevin Rafael each played one half in goal with Rafael earning the decision.
The Lasers are back in action on Friday, hosting San Diego Mesa at 2 p.m.
Irvine Valley then plays its next game on the road a week from Friday (Sept. 19) at Rio Hondo.
