Irvine Valley's men's soccer team saw its impressive season come to a close on Wednesday.
IVC, which captured the Orange Empire Conference title last week and earned the No. 17 seed in the So. Cal. Regional playoffs, scored the first goal of the contest , but lost to No. 16 Long Beach City, 2-1, on the road.
Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 13-8-1 overall and won its first OEC championship since 2015.
The Lasers were ready to go from the start on Wednesday, scoring within the first minute when sophomore forward Finn Monk challenged a long ball in the corner and then fed it across back to freshman midfielder Sungho Yun in the box.
Yun fnished with a shot inside the back post.
The Lasers had other chances, including rebounds that were saved, freshman defender Quinn Frye hitting a shot off of the post and several corner kicks in the final minutes.
Long Beach City scored in the 39th minute of the first half and then took the lead for good in the 68th minute.
Irvine Valley freshman goalie Sansiro Murata ended up with four saves on the day.
